Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Warning
Caution — Service soon
What It Means
The ABS system has detected a fault and is disabled. Your regular brakes still work, but the anti-lock function (which prevents wheel lockup during emergency braking) is not available. The vehicle may also disable traction control and stability control when ABS fails.
Common Causes
- Faulty wheel speed sensor (most common)
- Damaged ABS tone ring (rusted or cracked)
- ABS module internal fault
- Blown ABS fuse
- Low brake fluid (shared reservoir on some vehicles)
- Wiring damage at wheel sensor connector
Can I Still Drive?
Yes — normal braking still works. Drive cautiously, especially in wet or icy conditions where ABS is most needed. The vehicle will pass mechanical safety inspections but fail electronic brake system checks.
Estimated Repair Cost
$100 – $1,500
This is an estimate only. Actual costs vary by vehicle make, model, year, location, and shop labor rates. Always get multiple quotes for major repairs.
