Battery / Charging System Warning
Critical — Stop driving
What It Means
The alternator is not charging the battery. Your vehicle is running on battery power alone, and once the battery drains, the engine will stall and all electrical systems will shut down. This is NOT a battery problem — it's a charging system problem.
Common Causes
- Faulty alternator (most common)
- Broken or slipping serpentine belt
- Corroded or loose battery terminals
- Bad voltage regulator
- Blown alternator fuse or fusible link
- Wiring harness damage
Can I Still Drive?
Briefly — you have 15-45 minutes of battery power remaining. Turn off all unnecessary electrical loads (AC, radio, heated seats). Drive directly to a shop or a safe location. Do not attempt long-distance driving.
Estimated Repair Cost
$100 – $800
This is an estimate only. Actual costs vary by vehicle make, model, year, location, and shop labor rates. Always get multiple quotes for major repairs.
