Brake System Warning
Critical — Stop driving
What It Means
Can indicate engaged parking brake, low brake fluid level, a fault in the ABS system, or a serious hydraulic failure. In some vehicles, this light also serves as the parking brake indicator.
Common Causes
- Parking brake is partially engaged (check first)
- Low brake fluid (may indicate worn brake pads or a leak)
- Brake fluid leak in master cylinder, calipers, or lines
- Failed ABS pump or module
- Worn brake pads below minimum thickness
- Brake pad wear sensor triggered
Can I Still Drive?
If the parking brake is disengaged and fluid level is normal: test brake pedal feel at low speed. If pedal is firm, drive cautiously to a shop. If pedal is soft, sinks to floor, or vehicle pulls — STOP and tow. Brake failure is not survivable at speed.
Estimated Repair Cost
