Emissions System Warning
Caution — Service soon
What It Means
The vehicle's emissions control system has a fault. This is common on diesel vehicles and some newer gasoline vehicles with enhanced emissions monitoring. In states with emissions testing, this light will cause a failed inspection.
Common Causes
- SCR/AdBlue system fault (diesel)
- DPF regeneration overdue (diesel)
- EGR system fault
- EVAP system leak (gasoline)
- Secondary air injection fault
- NOx sensor fault (diesel)
Can I Still Drive?
Yes — the vehicle is safe to drive but will produce higher emissions. Address before your next emissions inspection. Diesel vehicles with SCR faults may eventually enter a 'no restart' mode if warnings are repeatedly ignored.
