What It Means
One or more exterior lights is not functioning — headlight, brake light, turn signal, or running light. This is both a safety hazard and a traffic violation in all US states.
Common Causes
- Burnt-out bulb (most common)
- Corroded bulb socket or connector
- Blown fuse for light circuit
- Faulty headlight ballast (HID/LED headlights)
- Body control module (BCM) fault for lighting circuit
Can I Still Drive?
Only in daylight. Replace the bulb before driving at night. Most auto parts stores will install bulbs for free with purchase. Check all lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals) before driving in darkness.
