Key Fob Battery Low / Key Not Detected
Informational — For your awareness
What It Means
The vehicle is having difficulty detecting the key fob. The fob battery may be low, or there may be signal interference. On keyless start vehicles, this may prevent push-button starting.
Common Causes
- Key fob battery low (CR2032 or similar — $2 replacement)
- Signal interference from other electronics or radio towers
- Key fob stored too far from the vehicle
- Key fob internal damage (water exposure, physical damage)
- Vehicle receiver antenna fault (rare)
Can I Still Drive?
Most vehicles have a backup starting procedure: hold the key fob directly against the start button (the button contains an NFC coil that reads the fob even with a dead battery) and press. Check your owner's manual for the exact procedure for your vehicle.
