Oil Pressure Warning
Critical — Stop driving
What It Means
Engine oil pressure has dropped below safe levels. This can mean low oil level, a failing oil pump, a clogged oil pickup screen, or worn engine bearings. Running an engine without oil pressure causes catastrophic damage in seconds to minutes.
Common Causes
- Low engine oil level (check dipstick immediately)
- Oil pump failure
- Clogged oil pickup screen or filter
- Worn main or rod bearings (internal engine damage)
- Faulty oil pressure sensor
- Oil dilution from leaking fuel injectors
Can I Still Drive?
DO NOT drive. Stop the engine immediately as soon as it is safe to pull over. Check oil level. If oil level is normal, the issue is likely the pump or sensor — tow to a shop. Driving even a few blocks with no oil pressure can seize the engine.
