Electric Power Steering (EPS) Warning
Caution — Service soon
What It Means
The electric power steering system has a fault. Steering effort will increase significantly, especially at low speeds and during parking maneuvers. Hydraulic power steering uses a different warning (see Power Steering Fluid).
Common Causes
- EPS motor or torque sensor failure
- Low battery voltage or charging system issue
- Steering angle sensor out of calibration
- EPS control module fault
- Blown EPS fuse
- Software glitch (often resolved by restarting the vehicle)
Can I Still Drive?
Yes — but steering will be noticeably heavier, especially during parking. Avoid tight maneuvers. If steering becomes extremely difficult or locks, pull over safely. Many EPS faults reset after turning the vehicle off and restarting.
