Seat Belt Reminder
Informational — For your awareness
What It Means
A seat belt is not fastened in an occupied seat. This light is often accompanied by an audible chime. In most US states, front-seat belt use is legally required.
Common Causes
- Seat belt not buckled (check all seats)
- Heavy object on passenger seat triggering occupancy sensor
- Faulty seat belt buckle sensor
- Faulty passenger occupancy sensor (seat mat)
Can I Still Drive?
Buckle all seat belts. If the light persists with belts buckled, the sensor is faulty — safe to drive but the airbag system may not deploy correctly for an unbelted occupant.
